The new book is now available on Amazon.com.  Tropical Calypso is now a reality.  It all began in 1996 when I published a small collection of stories called BITE OF THE MAILMAN.  A few years went by in a blur and Gayln just appeared and changed my life.  2001 SECRET GROTTO was published and I remember that wonderful feeling to have that huge piece of work published--holding that first new book in my hand was awesome.  I have learned so much since then, gotten better at writing and publishing and marketing and speaking---I know that there is still a long way to go and so much more to learn-especially at the marketing level(i do not not enjoy that aspect of the writing world).

My Short Story books:  BITE OF THE MAILMAN, SECRET GROTTO, CROW CANYON, WINK-EYE CREEK, and now TROPICAL CALYPSO.  I think this new book is the best of the collection and has the strongest stories of them all, even though Gayln and I still have our favorite stories from the other books, such as, FRIDAY BOYS, RITES OF HUNTER STATUS, WHITE MOOSE, FLOATING IN THE SKY, CAMOUFLAGE MAN, WOODVILLE MONSTER, THE SLIA, ALLIGATOR SALESMAN, DOGWORLD, THE BEE ROOM, DEVIL'S BEACH, LUCIBETH DOBBINS, and others.

Thank all of you that have read last years novel, THE HONEY BEE GIRL, and for all of you that haven't you're missing a beautiful story of growing up and falling in love--a story that will take you back to your first crush, the way you felt when holding hands with that person was such a momentous feeling and the feelings that exploded within you with that nervous glorious first kiss.

I would like to try and say one thing about my 2002 novel THE CAVERN OF THE EGGSTONE.  Out of all of my books this one has been the least picked up and read, BUT it's funny that the people who HAVE read it REALLY liked it.  It is Fantasy, with elves and dwarves and swords and creatures but if you like that genre then you will love it, so give it a try.  It seems that pre-teens and teens, the readers of Harry Potter and Lord of the RIngs fans tend to like it.

Now that school has began again my writing has slowed--i am working on a new story- but my artwork has once again gotten into full swing and I have produced many nice pieces of art already.  it's great being back in school, coaching football, being around students, teaching ART, and this year I am excited to be coaching soccer at my High School.   Oh, here is something interesting, did any of you know that one of my favorite authors, Nicholas Sparks, coaches track at a High School?  Cool news.

Thank all of you for your support and readership...and I value your friendship more than I could ever possibly show.  Love, Doug Hiser
